After his trip to Gran Canaria in November ‘23, Samuel painted this textured artwork, inspired by a tree outside his villa.
Samuel would enjoy his breakfast in the morning sun and observe the colours of the trees and plants, and the wildlife that lived around the residence.
Over an ombre blue background that represents the sky, Samuel has painted branches in dark green, then applied blobs and brush strokes of light green and pinks, representing the beautiful petals and leaves. He has chosen to frame the tree in the lower half of the painting, as though the observer is looking up at the branches, as Samuel often did.
‘Breakfast in Gran Canaria’ uses clay and acrylic paints on canvas and is fixed within a white stained oak frame measuring 93.5cm x 93.5cm.
