Joy of Spring

Joy of Spring is a bold, colourful and joyful painting using green, pink, blue, yellow and orange acrylic paints on canvas.

Samuel has stitched together two sheets of canvas and hand stretched it over a sturdy wooden frame. The stitch runs across the top centre of the painting, creating a rough texture once the gesso was applied. Samuel then added pumice paste, cracking paste and gels to create multiple textures. ‘Splodges’ of colourful paint where applied in sections, and layered over each other to create this energetic composition. Finally Samuel flicked the matching colours over the sections of splodges to add yet another textural element.

Samuel wanted to create a bold painting that was inspired by the recent warm weather and his excitement for the months ahead.
